Santander switching offer 2026: £240 is back

Santander has relaunched its £240 switching offer, for switch requests from 27 October 2026. Here's what it asks for.

Updated 01 November 2026 · 5 min read
The short answer

£240 for a full switch, but it needs two household Direct Debits of your own.

You need a full CASS switch to a Santander Everyday Current Account, two household Direct Debits (council tax, mobile, broadband, gas and so on), a £1,500 pay-in and £200 into a Regular Saver, all within 60 days. BeSwitchReady's Direct Debits don't count towards this one.

Switch requests from 27 Oct 2026Paid about 90 days after you request the switchNo end date, can be withdrawn
Why BeSwitchReady's Direct Debits don't count. Santander only accepts household Direct Debits: council tax, mobile, home phone, broadband, paid-for TV, water, gas or electricity. A membership Direct Debit isn't one of those. Most other banks just ask for "two active Direct Debits", which is why we flag this one separately.

What you need to do

  1. Request a full switch with CASSSwitch to a new or existing Santander Everyday Current Account, on or after 27 October 2026, and close your old account. Complete the switch within 60 days.
  2. Pay in £1,500In one or more payments, within 60 days of your switch request.
  3. Set up two household Direct DebitsOn the Santander account, from the list above. Direct Debits that fund a Santander, cahoot or Cater Allen savings account don't count.
  4. Fund a Regular Saver with £200A new or existing Santander Regular Saver in your own name, within 60 days of the switch request.
  5. Keep everything open until you're paidOn the payment date you still need the Everyday account, the Regular Saver and the two Direct Debits.

Santander checks eligibility 60 days after your switch request and pays within 30 days of that, so around 90 days in total. Only one payment per account holder, or per joint account.

Who can't claim it

  • Anyone named on the new account who held a Santander current account on 1 January 2026
  • Anyone who has previously received a Santander switching incentive
  • People switching from a Santander, cahoot or Cater Allen account
  • Non-UK residents

Santander can also withhold payment if it suspects the offer is being abused, and the offer can't be transferred to anyone else.

Is it worth it?

For

  • £240 is the second biggest offer on our list
  • You may already pay household bills by Direct Debit
  • A Regular Saver can earn interest on the £200

Against

  • Slow: about 90 days to be paid
  • Needs a £1,500 pay-in and a £200 Regular Saver
  • BeSwitchReady's Direct Debits don't help here

If you already have two household Direct Debits you can move, it's worth a look. If you'd have to set them up from scratch just for this, HSBC, First Direct or NatWest are simpler.

What else is live right now

Most of these ask for two active Direct Debits. Lloyds and Barclays ask for three.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Santander £240 switching offer available?

Yes. Santander relaunched it for switch requests made on or after 27 October 2026. It has no published end date and can be withdrawn at any time. The earlier version ran from 1 September to 7 October 2026.

What does the Santander offer require?

A full CASS switch to a Santander Everyday Current Account, two active household Direct Debits, a £1,500 pay-in and a Regular Saver funded with at least £200, all within 60 days of your switch request.

Do BeSwitchReady's Direct Debits count for Santander?

No. Santander only accepts household Direct Debits such as council tax, water, gas, electricity, mobile, broadband or TV, and a membership Direct Debit isn't in those categories.

When does Santander pay the £240?

Santander checks eligibility 60 days after your switch request and pays within 30 days of that decision, so around 90 days after you request the switch.

Can I claim it if I already bank with Santander?

Not if anyone named on the new account held a Santander current account on 1 January 2026, or has received a Santander switching incentive before. You also can't switch from a Santander, cahoot or Cater Allen account.
