What's the HSBC switching offer?

  • Bonus: £500 cash
  • Account: Advance or Premier account
  • Monthly fee: None on Advance (Premier has requirements)
  • Offer deadline: Ongoing — check HSBC's website for current terms

Am I eligible?

You qualify if:

  • ✅ You switch via CASS
  • ✅ You have two active Direct Debits
  • ✅ You have never held an HSBC current account before
  • ✅ You can meet the £1,500/month minimum pay-in
  • ✅ You have not held a First Direct account since January 2018 (HSBC and First Direct are in the same group)

HSBC Advance vs Premier — which should you apply for?

Most switchers should apply for the HSBC Advance account. It has no monthly fee, is accessible to most applicants, and carries the full £500 switching bonus. The Premier account requires a higher income or significant savings held with HSBC — it's designed for existing HSBC customers, not new switchers.

How to claim the HSBC £500 bonus

  1. Apply for an HSBC Advance account via the HSBC app or website
  2. Request a full CASS switch from your existing current account
  3. Your switch completes in 7 working days — Direct Debits transfer automatically
  4. Deposit at least £1,500 within 30 days of the switch completing
  5. Bonus is paid within 30 days of all conditions being met

Is the HSBC £500 offer worth it?

It's the single largest switching bonus currently available in the UK, with no monthly account fee. For anyone who hasn't held an HSBC account and can meet the pay-in requirement, this should almost always be the first switch to target. £500 for roughly 30 minutes of effort is an outstanding return.

Should you switch to HSBC or First Direct first?

Because HSBC and First Direct are in the same group, you can only claim one of their bonuses (unless enough time passes). If you're choosing between them:

  • Choose HSBC if you want the larger bonus and are happy with a standard high-street bank
  • Choose First Direct if you want a bank with exceptional customer service and are happy with £200 (plus up to £35 cashback) instead

For pure bonus maximisation, start with HSBC.
